Full Glossary

Here's a Glossary of every single definition listed on this website! I've put an effort in to actually make these definitions understandable to the average person, so... you're welcome. I've also made a quiz on this website, so check it out!        -  Brandon

Autotroph

A living thing that is able to make food for itself from non-living substances, like Carbon Dioxide or sunlight. A plant.

Omnivore

A living thing that eats things out of both plant and animal origin. For example, us!

Heterotroph

Any living thing that has to consume another living thing to get their food. Something that can't make their own food.

Producer

A living thing that serves as a source of food for consumers in the food chain and does not consume anything - It makes it's own food.

First Order Consumer

A consumer that eats a producer in the food chain. e.g A herbivore

Ecosystem

A community of living things interacting with their physical environment

Endotherm

An animal that has the ability to create it's own heat internally - warm blooded animals.

Exotherm

An animal that can't make it's own heat and needs another source - cold blooded animals.

A series of living things, each dependent on the next living thing as a source of food.

Food chain

Biome

A large naturally occuring community of plants and animals living in a natural habitat. 

Physical rather than living. That means it doesn't come from living things. eg - A rock.

Abiotic

Relating to or coming from living things. Anything living or anything that used to be alive.

Biotic

A consumer in the food chain that eats living things below it in the chain, but is not eaten.

A consumer that eats the first order consumer in the food chain.

e.g Carnivore

Highest Order Consumer

Second Order Consumer

Matter made of organic stuff that has come from the remains of living things and waste products from them.

Matter that is not from organic stuff or anything living.
