Animal Relationships

Mutualism

An example of mutualism in the Serengeti is the relationship between the Oxpecker birds and the large animals of the Serengeti. (Like the hippo) The oxpecker birds eat the blood-sucking, potentially disease carrying bugs from the skin of the larger animals. Not only does the bird get a free feed, but the larger animal get a free clean.
